Will the Secure Flight Program complicate job interviews?

The Strategic HR Lawyer wrote an interesting post about the how the TSA’s new policy will make it more complicate for employers to book travel plans for potential applicants.

The TSA recently adopted a new policy under its Secure Flight Program where airlines will begin asking passengers to enter their date of birth and gender when making airline reservations.

Many employers arrange air travel for potential job applicants to fly to the corporate office for final interviews at some point during the job application progress.  The TSA’s new policy will now require the employer to obtain the applicants gender and date of birth in order to book airline tickets.

There have been numerous posts and articles written about whether it is a good idea to ask an applicant for their age or date of birth because of the risk of how this information might be used.

Perhaps the TSA’s new policy will create a good reason to outsource travel plans to travel agents or other third parties with instructions not to disclose such information to the potential employer.
