The bill will freeze the maximum estate tax rates at 45% and provide for a $3.5 million single exemption and a $7.0 million married couple exemption.

This bill also elects to repeal the carryover basis based upon the theory that it creates an unfair compliance burden on taxpayers. I think the compliance burden, in our current society, is overstated.

We will see how this is resolved in the senate.
