		<title>US House of Representatives approves a measure to retain the Federal Estate Tax</title>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The United State House of Representatives approved a measure by a 225 to 200 vote to retain the Federal estate tax in bill titled &#8220;Permanent Estate Tax Relief for Families, Farmers, and Small Businesses Act of 2009&#8243; in House Resolution 4154.  You can view the measure <a href="http://www.house.gov/daily/hpg.htm" target="_blank">here</a>. The bill will freeze the maximum estate tax rates at 45% and provide for a $3.5 million single exemption and a $7.0 million married couple exemption.</p>
<p>This bill also elects to repeal the carryover basis based upon the theory that it creates an unfair compliance burden on taxpayers. I think the compliance burden, in our current society, is overstated.</p>
<p>We will see how this is resolved in the senate.</p>
